Do you know anything about the detectives who worked the case? Robert Newman 3/4/97
From what I gather, some of the police involved were just trying to do the right thing, and some were corrupt. But I haven't been able to get "enough hard information" regarding that. Pamela 3/4/97
What was the reaction of the public and the media? Robert Newman 3/6/97
The media loved it, and at times, may have fabricated stories or "made the news" to keep it going. People were definitely interested, not because of the killing itself, but a) the brutality of it affected locals and b) the amount of people who admitted to the crime drew national attention. But I think it was all more out of fascination rather than disgust and concern. Note that in the 1940s, most murders were by the MOB (more likely in the 30s), and people really tended to turn their heads on those, being that most involved with the MOB were considered "no gooders." Now, here's a female, who may have been dubbed a whore or mistress (by society after her death), but yet, she's pretty and had a dream to act - that brings it closer to home. In my years of reporting, I've found that people will lock their doors more so to keep a rapist from getting a woman, than a serial killer after an adult. There just seems to be more concern there. Pamela 3/4/97
Is it a possibility that the killer commited suicide soon after the crime? Robert Newman 3/4/97
That is always a possibility, but I don't believe so. Pamela 3/4/97
Who were some of the main suspects? Robert Newman 3/4/97
According to police, any "main" suspects were admitting to a crime they didn't commit. They haven't revealed any others. Pamela 3/4/97
How is this killing similar to that of serial killers? Robert Newman 3/4/97
According to the definition of a serial killer, can we really answer that? A serial killer kills more than once. Pamela 3/4/97
What credible sources are there for reasearch on this case? Robert Newman 3/4/97
Credible sources - Most notably, John Gilmore, whose interview appears on this site.
I remember reading about the murder when I was very young, needless to say, it has left an impression on me. I am a freelance writer and I was considering doing a book on this case. Do you feel that the serial killer market, and possibly even the Black Dahlia market have been saturated? Robert Newman 3/4/97
On the contrary, I don't think so. I think there is more of a fascination now than there was 15 years ago - but it has become more commercialized. Pamela 3/4/97
"Do you know where one can see, purchase, or rent the film "Who Is The Black Dahlia?" MKBUZZELL@aol.com 3/18/97
This film is aired from time to time on cable. E! Online has a moviefinder service with which you can request to be notified when a movie will come on cable in your area. I do not know if the process is reliable. To get there, go to http://www.eonline.com and click MovieFinder (upper left-hand corner). You will have to become a registered member to do this. Run a search on the movie, then click on REMIND ME.
I read the Lynne Murray review of "Daddy was..." and the reviewer says the story falls into the trap of disinformation the LAPD spread to weed out false confessions. Have I missed something over the years? Has that information been published or does Murray have access to LAPD files that the general pubic does not? Wilfred Pennington 4/12/97
Information you read in articles, newspapers and many books is likely public. Pamela 7/21/97
I've written a couple books on James Dean, through which I became friends with a man named John Gilmore. He's an enigmatic fellow, but a nice guy. What do you think of his book on the Black Dahlia? Also, where is she buried? I can't recall,if I even read it. Warren Beath 5/19/97
To the best of my knowledge, Elizabeth Short is in Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, California. You can view a picture of her headstone at http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/extra/dewey/pap28.html Pamela 7/21/97
