(from-name) Janice Knowlton (RegisteredComments) The real killer of Beth Short, George Knowlton, had a criminal record back into his teens. The most recent proof was just published in the May 26, 1999 issue of the Beverly Citizen, by a writer, David Goss, who is doing The Millenium Series for the Beverly Historical Society. He found this report in a 1934 issue of the paper, The Beverly Times: "On the home front, 1934 was a year that witnessed a miniature crime wave in Beverly. A three month long series of house robberies, car thefts and hold-ups came to an abrupt end when Beverly police hunted down and arrested five youthful Beverly gangsters. The hoodlums in question were identified as: Dominick Capozzi,22, his brother William Capozzi, 18, Edward Burningham, 19, Fred Denno, 19, and GEORGE KNOWLTON, 22, of Winthrop Avenue, (Beverly, MA)." It is not yet known whether George Knowlton was convicted and served time. Fred Denno, George's partner in crime, lived in Melrose, MA, adjacent to Medford,! Mass. Beth Short, born July 29, 1924, if seen by Georgie, who "like little girls," may have met Georgie there. The man who ended her life.
