I have several pictures that I took while they were filming some scenes at our apartment building, the Chateau Alto Nido. Josh Hartnett was filming that day.

The Alto Nido. Supposedly she lived here before she died.

The Lobby/Front Desk. Its usually empty but they brought in some nice period pieces to fill it out. Would have been nice to keep it. Actually, they let the building keep the blinds. They did not end up filming inside.

Tenant List. Just to show what detail they go into sometimes on a set. This was a tenant list at the front desk that they had made up. No listing for Elizabeth Short.

Is there any proof that Beth Short lived at this apartment building?

Thanks everyone! Man, my bandwith has jumped quite a bit since the movie came out. Shocked Very Happy

I don't think there is any real proof that she lived there. Its always been the local rumor though. But one thing is for sure, there are definitely some spirits roaming that building! Great building to live in though. Supposedly Renee Zelweger lived there too.

I too lived there during the filming (and painting)...

Of course, the shot in the film doesn't do the building justice at all. It's such a cool place and they had the worst tilting shot of the exterior. It all added to the poor quality of the film anyway.

But for those who live in L.A., hop up in Ivar Hill and look at the Alto Nido. And a much better shot of the building is in the film Sunset Boulevard (which is exactly why I moved there!).

And, those are great shots from the set!

I too, would like to express my thanks. Living in an old building like that, surely would have its stories to tell... no matter who lived there.
