| I just finished it a couple weeks ago and thought it was a good book. It had a nice flow to it and didn't get bogged down. Also a few new tidbits about Beth Short that I didn't know. A book to me is worth reading even if I find out only a couple new things that I didn't know before. That being said I don't agree with Wolfe's conclusion and think he is really stretching it when he takes gossip (like the claim that Short was pregnant) and uses that as the motive for murder. It seems ridiculous to me that Bugsy Siegal himself and his 'buds' would be involved in the murder of someone like Short. |

Larry Harnish seems to find a lot of exceptions in the Wolfe book.
Im waiting for Larrys book to come out...
See Blogging the Wolfe Book, Our Story So Far on the Larry Harnish Blog.
http://lmharnisch.blogspot.com/
Larry, probably the greatest athority on the Black Dahlia, is bloging Donald H. Wolfe's "The Black Dahlia Files: The Mob, the Mogul and the Murder That Transfixed Los Angeles."

| I'll admit that I haven't read the book yet. But I did spend the last few days reading through all of Larry Harnish's blog articles. The amount of time he's putting in to this is staggering! It's actually making me want to read all the Dahlia books. Hopefully, Larry will finish his own book soon (yet another to add to my growing collection). |

We know that Beth Short lived briefly in Vallejo with her father, Cleo, who was working at Mare Island at the time. Don Wolfe mentions in passing that Cleo was living with a Mrs Yanke on Nebraska Street. A little research by me two weeks back turned up the fact that there was an Ernest and Patricia Yanke that lived at 1237 Nebraska Street in Vallejo. It seems that Cleo rented a room from them, and that must have been where Beth Short stayed for a week or so before moving to Los Angeles.
It's interesting to note that 1237 Nebraska Street is 0.4 miles (about 4-5 blocks) from 32 Fresno Street, where Zodiac Killer suspect Arthur Leigh Allen would come to live in the next few years. Kinda weird how a famous murder victim lived so close to where an infamous murder suspect lived. |

I thought this was the best book I've read so far on another theory of Beth Short's murder.
Though I don't agree with it, it is a very good read. _________________ " Saddle your dreams before you ride them. " |

I picked the book up last night and am still reading it. The photos alone are worth it. So far a good read, but I get the feeling he's trying too hard to reach a conclusion he doesn't have proof of. And is reaching further than he has to with the Chandler connection.
But I'm not done yet, so I'll reserve judgement.
Other than a few SD location errors (the Mecca Hotel is 12 miles north of PB??? The Hacienda is in Mission Valley???) _________________ I've been following Beth for years, and lived and worked near her haunts and never knew it! |

| Well, any book with an out and out lie in the first sentence is bound to end poorly. |

Well, as Larry has so sardonically proven, the whole book is a sham.
But c'mon, lying about night life in LA in the 40's? Are you retarded?
1940's Los Angeles probably had a more happening night life than Modern LA.
And i quote:
"THERE WASN'T MUCH nightlife in Los Angeles back in the 1940's. Most people went to bed early. Even in Hollywood the streets were empty, and the town was pretty dead by 10:00 P.M."
Right, and i'm Gene Krupa.
I've got an album full of photos, lots from places quite a bit less swinging than Los Angeles that prove that the Greatest Generation liked the nightlife just fine. |

LOL I was thinking of your photos when I read that line. And you're right, he DOES take a spanking from Larry.
You know, Larry and I hit it off rather well. Who'd have guessed THAT?? I liked him alot. _________________ We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change we seek. ~Barack Obama |

I think I give MOST people a chance and I've always liked his theory well enough, but I watched him brutally dish out criticism to EVERYONE. I needed to know if he could take it. He can. Although I took it easy on him because he's an older guy. Now a young guy, in his prime, who thinks he can have a throw down with me... I won't be showing any mercy _________________ We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change we seek. ~Barack Obama |

Wolfe say Beth was pregnant.
But doesn't the coroner's report state she wasn't pregnant and never had a child?
That would be a HUGE error _________________ I've been following Beth for years, and lived and worked near her haunts and never knew it! |

I didn't see one bit of proof about Chandler either.
Wolfe ends up with five people doing the killing. It's Severed X5.
Supposedly the pregnancy was the coroner's "secret." I think I just wasted alot of my time
5 murderers had to keep quiet, plus the coroner's office/police/DA/etc.
Too many people and not bloody likely. _________________ I've been following Beth for years, and lived and worked near her haunts and never knew it! |

What Wolfe does is completely ignore virtually EVERYTHING in the DA files.
And i'm sorry, THAT many people can't keep shut for 60 years. It would take an act of the divine to rig that. |
