| Hello I am 27yrs. old and am new to the site. I have been interested in the case since I read the Ellroy book, although I thought the book was way better than the movie, don't know, maybe it was the actors I didn't like. Anyway, I had never heard or seen the site so I'm excited there is somewhere I can now go to and get new info. and updates concerning the case! |

Welcome, Applejacks Make yourself at home!
But we warned: Ellroy's book is purely a work of fiction. Elizabeth wasn't a prostitute, nor was she a lesbian or a porn star. _________________ "With your child's eyes, you are more than you seem." |

Thanks guys! There is sooo much on this site and forum to read that I don't even wanna go to bed yet..lol...I'm glad u said what you did b/c I was thinking she was a prostitute by what the book said. There are already a lot of new things I have learned about the case just by reading all of the posts. |

The only truth to the novel is the fact that she did die a very violent and painful death and her name is Elizabeth Short.
Ellroy really butchered her reputation with his novel and the movie made it worse. _________________ "With your child's eyes, you are more than you seem." |

I don't buy the prostitute story! I don't think she was like that at all. Yeah, she tried to look nice for guys to buy her dinner (see other link) because she had no money of her own. That dos'nt make anyone a prostitute at all. I ha'vnt read that book in particular. Just starting on BDA.
Yeah, if you go back and read all the threads, you'll learn so much and become so confused ). Then with current threads you'll remember something from a past thread and can never find it. Ahh well. ~steps off soapbox~ )
Do you mind if I call you AJ? |

Not at all u can call me AJ..
I had never heard of the case until I read the book a little before the movie came out so I had really not done any research as to see if there were other theories floating around. A couple months ago I saw the Hodel theory on the ID channel's show "most evil" and thats why I decided to look up more stuff about it.But as I can see there are many theories here on the forum, even a suspect of the month I think I read somewhere. |

| I'm still quite new to the case and learned about it through (I believe, Crimelibrary) and then read Larry Harnischs' site. I was convinced of his theory untill finding this site and there is sooooo much more to it.!!! ( http://www.lmharnisch.com/home.html ) but have learned loads and loads more by this site and books. |

Yeah, I don't think one has been chosen for July yet. Maybe it has though, I'm usually last to know. |

Welcome AJ,
Yeah you haven't met Beth yet. Not by Ellroys book. I have often been recommending the Black Dahlia in Hollywood site as the best place to start. Pretty clear and concise. And no suspect pushed on you.
We're glad to have you here.

So I've been lurking here for abut two weeks, finally decided to post so admins and mods wouldn't start tailing me^^( ). Bit about me- 28, mom of 7 year old demon and 3 month old demoness-in-training, live in Western Mass. I own a historically accurate online rpg so I spend most time online, in between mommy/wife stuff. (No- this is not a shameless self plug- just some background info). As a result of my chosen work, I write- alot. And research stuff, pretty darn well IMO. Armchair psychology is a main interest and historical mysteries have always fascinated me. I claim no expertise, just an open mind.
I saw the cold case ep a few weeks ago, which brought the BD case back to mind for me, after years of never even thinking about it. I have this irritating habit (so says everyone who knows me) of taking interest in a specific subject and devouring every bit of info I can find on it. Why the BD case? Can't answer that definitively- but it attracts me. I have yet to form an absolute opinion, the case and facts surrounding it are still too new to me, but I have begun by frequenting this forum, and I just started BDA yesterday (I'm halfway finished). I've visited Harnisch's site, and while informative- I take issue with those who spend more time refuting other's info than in sharing evidence of their own. Ive also visited some of the other links posted here- the Ed Burn's theory one was....intriuging, but very hard to read due to it's almost total incoherent qualities.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling now, but I'll be around
Oh, and warning- I have a detestable habit of never capitalizing my I's, consider it part of my signature |

Welcome cjcrd!
You sound like me (beside the 2 kids and wife/mommy thing). I also hit on something that interests me and I throw myself into it until I move onto the next thing.

Hi, All
I've been lurking here for ages and hesitated to post, because not sure I can contribute much that hasn't already been discussed and my opinions can be too off the wall for credibility sometimes. I have to say this is a great board and I get nervous when it slows down for fear it will go away -- can't stand the thought.
I've been interested in the BD case since I was a kid, and hearing about it and the earlier Degnan case scared the bejesus out of me for years to come. Always hoping for them to solve it, and always wondered if the two cases were connected. Not sure I believe they have the right guy in Heirens for the Degnan murder, and especially since I heard that Richard Thomas claimed to have written the ransom note for that case. Always wondered if that was true. If so who was the man who asked him to write the note I wonder.
Not much about me, I'm ancient, and retired with a grown family and time on my hands. I guess I'm a message board junkie especially boards that deal with crime, psychology, and missing persons. I volunteer on a missing person's board much of the time hoping that we can help families who are going through hell in search of their loved ones. |

That is awesome Packy. I know that these messageboards get a bum wrap sometimes, but I followed the Tara Grant murder on a messageboard and found it to be up to date and more informative than the news. And when Stephen Grant took off, a poster from the board heard the alert on her c.b. radio and spotted his truck and was able to send law enforcement in the right direction.
Anyway, welcome to the board and feel free to bounce any ideas off of us. There is the occaional grouch here but mostly we are a civilized bunch. _________________ We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change we seek. ~Barack Obama |

Hi, Briar and Grouch, oops I mean MC. Thanks for the welcome.
Interesting that you mention the Grant case at this time, because I just finished reading about the jail guard who is sueing fellow guards for leaving her alone with Stephen grant. Story here if interested.
