So I'll keep in mind the fact that this woman Janice Knowlton had an extremely tragic life and demise, and that her sisters have posted on this board before. All negative comments about the book are really directed towards the publisher and coauthor, who should have had enough mental capacity to realize this entire project was garbage from the get go.
This book does not deserve to be included in the pantheon of Dahlia literature out there. In fact, there should be warning that anyone seriously interested in this case should not read this book.
Why? Well first off, I am dying to know if Short's family had any kind of warning this slandering garbage was about to be published, and if they tried to stop it. Beth had been accused of many things by many different writers, but I've never seen such a collective slew of disgusting, unfounded accusations as I did in this book. If Daddy Was the Black Dahlia Killer is to be believed Beth was:
1. A monstrous child abuser
2. A child molester
3. Prostitute
4. Porn Star
5. Bi-Polar or something along those lines (She's often described in the book as going from nice "Aunt Betty" to violent in a flash)
Now I don't consider myself prone to queasiness too often, but once (Warning! Spoiler) I got the miscarried fetus in the meat grinder scene, this book lost me for good.
Now as everyone on this board seems dedicated to protecting the memory of Beth, I think it would due her real credit to not promote this book on the website with its own subforum. It should be treated like it doesn't even exist. I wish Janice had just written it for her own cathartic experience and kept it to herself.
Those are just my thoughts on the matter. I'm not driven to write or start posts, but I was so disturbed by what I had read last night, I had to get it out. |
