I am wondering what the general consensus is concerning 1947Project? If I'm remember correctly, they had a "Lost Weekend" event last year which was all about Elizabeth. Did anyone go?

I know it's a project Larry works on. I don't frequent it, however.

I am not entirely certain what it is. Is it the tour thingy that Larry does?

(This was the wrong board for this post, wasn't it. Laughing )

Yes, they offer tours to different spots around LA where murders occurred and so on.

http://1947project.com/tags/black-dahlia

For the 60th anniversary, they had something called "The Lost Weekend". They had art exhibitions, ran movies about her, had a cocktail party, etc etc. I find it very disturbing.

Here's some more info about it:

On the 21st of June (yesterday), they had a tour called "The Real Black Dahlia". Here's the link:

No, of course not. The only reason I haven't really read more about it is because I have the attention span of a doorknob. I'm not really sure about all of the contributors (the Blood and Dumplings thing sounds a bit strange to me) but I know that Larry was very cautious about our motives and had to be assured that we weren't morbid thrill seekers.

Well, if he did think The Lost Weekend was morbid, then he must be gullible.

Quote:
Using 2 gallery spaces, one designated “Elizabeth” the other “The Black Dahlia” each artist explores the contrast of truth vs. myth, reality vs. report, the actual vs. sensational-and the transformation that violent crime exacts on public image.

Underneath all the salacious stories, black lace and mysterious persona she was just a 22 year old girl trying to make it in Hollywood. Underneath all the headlines, slashes and gashes-Elizabeth Short was someone’s daughter.”

Neon, isn't that exactly what you are arguing for?
Maybe it's the bus tour and commercialization you have problems with (I do) but otherwise it's the right message.

Larry seems pretty protective. He has contacted me about items on ebay that were exploiting her murder and I have joined him in protesting to ebay management.

Quote:

which more info is available here:

The Tuesday January 16 VIP tour package ($150) includes hosted drinks
at the Biltmore Hotel where Elizabeth Short was last seen alive, a
walk down the black carpet and prime seating at the "Black Dahlia
Movie" premiere, a curator's tour of an exhibition of art inspired by
the crime at Regent Galleries, a seat on the star-studded Crime Bus
for a midnight tour of the crime scene and other important historic
spots with Gidget Gein (Marilyn Manson band, "Black Dahlia Movie"),
actresses Lizzy Strain and Sarah Scott and their "Black Dahlia"
director Ramzi Abed, documentarian and Dahlia-ologist Matthew Buzzell
and other luminaries, scrumptious snacks and beverages, a choice of a
hand-made Black Dahlia t-shirt or a crystal embellished hair flower,
plus a commemorative Lost Weekend program.

THAT is what I find inappropriate.

And the quote you put up there is from a blog that is not run by 1947Project. It's written by a man who blogs his experiences in LA. That is his opinion, not that of 1947Project.

"Dahlia-themes excitement" is what set me off. Sounds like it was just one big party.

*Dahlia-themed, I meant Razz

If they were going to have a "celebration", why not have one for her birthday? Why "celebrate" the anniversary of her death?

At least they didn't call it a "Dahlia-themed Bacchanalian revelry, with pin the knife on the body games and delicious cakes in the likeness of the Dahlia".

I recognize a name or two there. Very Happy

I have never seen (nor wanted to see) the Ramzi Abed movie. Has anyone else? Comments?

I understand and that's wonderful. On the other hand, this same person (Harnisch) plans on making a profit off a book concerning Elizabeth's murder. Selling exploitative material on Ebay or writing a book about her murder and selling it...all leads to the same thing: making money.

The same with this 1947Project "Lost Weekend" bruhaha.

It's just my opinion that profiting off of someone's death, by means of a book, event, or whatever, is wrong.

Nope, but I've seen the Livejournal blog of his wife and the Myspace site for the movie.

The wife and I didn't hit it off well, to say the least. On her blog, she posted a photo of a pumpkin she had carved to look like Elizabeth, complete with slit mouth and light-up eyes. Rolling Eyes I didn't hesitate to tell her how inappropriate I thought it was.

I am learning that words speak louder than bureaucrats. How did YOU learn about this case??? I learned about it from a special I watched. The actors, writers, and network made money on it, but it triggered my interest. There are people who have self-serving motives for their books, movies, websites, etc. But no one does any of this with no motive at all. The question is whether your motive is to help or to exploit... Wink

I just watched Kung Fu Panda which is why I sound all philosophical Wink

Uh oh, I'm a hypocrite!

I read true crime novels all the time. It's never occurred to me that the money I was paying would go to author. I never thought much about where the money went period.

I didn't think of it this way until I got interested in Elizabeth's case.

hehehe I've heard that's a good movie! Is it?

Hmm..let me think back. I've been hearing about this case for a while, but I wasn't sure if it was fictional or if it really happened. I think I came across something about it on CrimeLibrary.com?
