So, I finally found this book on Sunday, and there are a couple of things in the book that I found interesting (very disturbing, but interesting), just by looking at the pictures, some of which I had not seen before, at least in such detail.

1. Her (I believe right) breast was cut off. I had always read that that was a myth, and thought it stemmed from the weird red bubble looking wound in her other breast, but in one of the autopsy pictures, it is clear as day that the breast was removed, or at least most of it including the nipple (sorry to be graphic here).

2. I know other people had mentioned this on here before, but I had always mistaken the criss-cross cuts on her pubic area for hair - I was shocked to see that they were actually tons of very deep criss-cross cuts to her pubic region. It really show what a sick, twisted monster her killer was.

I think it is interesting that it was always reported as myth that she had been burnt with a cigarette and her breast had been cut off. We can now see from the pictures that are just now coming to light that these were both true. I wonder if these injuries could have been some of the secret questions that Harry Hansen kept from the public? Just a thought.

Isn't it so strange that these new injuries are just coming out now? I guess it does give some hope that new information about this case can still come out all these years later.

The weird thing is, I never noticed the missing breast in any other pictures - I only noticed the smaller, bubble looking injury on the other breast, but I've seen the crime scene pictures of her in the Norton lot a million times. Could the missing breast have been somehow doctored in the picture to not show up, if in fact that was information that Harry Hansen wanted to keep quiet?

Anyway, I can't believe how clear the pictures in the book are - it is interesting, because I am so obsessed with the case, but also so disturbing, and so sad to think of what poor Beth went through. Who ever killed her was a seriously evil individual.

I'm not sure, but I don't think you can technically have a discussion about the morgue pictures until everyone has seen the exquisate corpse pics. They are a trillion times more telling.

I saw EC at a used book store a few months back. Being one of the duller tools in the shed, I couldn't understand anything I was reading or seeing. Frankly, the whole idea seems like nothing but an attempt to make more money off of Elizabeth's death.

I also noticed the obvious absence of her right breast including the nipple, though I saw it not in EQ but in the morgue photos in Severed. Yet, in other photos, the, such as the photos taken at the crime scene, the nipple is visible. http://www.charonboat.com/2007/11/charonboat_dot_com_black_dahlia_8.jpg is an example of one of the photos where you can plainly see the nipple, but in this photo: http://www.charonboat.com/2007/11/charonboat_dot_com_black_dahlia_10.jpg the whole breast is missing.

I think that's just the (lack of) photo quality.

I think the books assertion that the killer was informed by surrealist art...and was familiar with motifs in surrealist art is right on the money!

I still chalk it up to photo quality. Looks like the entire epidermis, nipple included was removed.

Perhaps something on the other photo (dust, maybe) makes it look like a nipple is present.


Like i said, i'll check again.

Never seen the ones in EC, but i wouldn't be surprised.

I'm not certain which ones were and which weren't. I know that they had a higher quality than I have ever seen, but these pictures are real scans of originals.

No Geisha! Not a problem, quite the opposite. Like I said I was going to buy EC because of those pictures and now I don't need to do that. I personally, am a bit iffy on the surrealism part but when I saw the pictures for the first time, I went "OHHHHHH!" It answered SOOOOO much for me. But I am not looking for a sick thrill. Some folks come here for just that.
